How to put on compression stockings

SolvaCare compression stockings help maintain blood flow best when they are worn properly. How do you check? Follow these instructions closely.

  • Make sure the stocking is put on tightly and smoothly over the entire lower leg.
  • Make sure the dark-coloured heel section fits well over the heel.
  • Make sure the upper edge of the stocking is not folded over.
  • The upper edge of the stocking should end about an inch below the knee.

SolvaCare compression stockings are elastic both lengthways and widthways. The stocking can be pulled further up if you have long legs. To do this, make twisting movements with your hands (as if you were turning a steering wheel back and forth) while putting on the stocking and the fabric will give way.

This has no effect on the pressure profile and the functionality of the stocking.

Putting on the stockings – step 1

Put your hand into the stocking, up to the heel section. Hold the heel section and turn the stocking inside out up to there.

Putting on the stockings – step 2

Place the stocking over the foot, making sure that the dark part of the heel section ends underneath the heel.

Putting on the stockings – step 3

Hold the remaining part of the stocking that is still inside-out between thumb and fingers, and gently pull it up over the ankle and calf.

Putting on the stockings – step 4

Make sure that the stocking is smooth on the skin and that the band at the top of the stocking is not folded over. Make sure that the upper part of the stocking ends about an inch below the knee. This is important to ensure maintain appropriate blood circulation.

Taking off the stockings – step 1

Simply take the upper part of the stocking and pull it down gently but firmly over the calf, ankle and foot. Take extra care with wounds or fragile skin. Be careful with sharp nails, and do not pull the stocking down hard using only two fingers. This could tear the stocking.

Taking off the stockings – step 2

If necessary, put your thumbs next to the Achilles tendon under the stocking to easily pull it over your heel.
